Mobile, AL (WKRG)
Family and friends in Mobile and south Mobile County are coming to grips with a huge loss. Family members say, Alex Balkcom, better known as Buddy, and his wife Pam Balkcom were the two killed in a crash at the intersection of highway 90 and Bellingrath road Tuesday night.
“Him and his wife loved everybody and everybody loved them,” said Buddy Balkcom’s Ex-Brother-In-Law Mike Hanson. Hanson said the two men maintained a strong bond for much of their lives.
“He wasn’t just my brother-in-law he was more like my brother, we done a lot of things together,” said Hanson holding back tears.
“Anytime you needed something he was there, you could always call him my dad would give him the shirt off his back if that’s what you asked for,” said Buddy Balkcom’s daughter Patricia Balkcom as she described her father. She added that Pam Balkcom was also very loving and caring.
Wednesday morning Mobile Police were back at the accident scene gathering more evidence. Police say the two were traveling towards Tillman’s Corner on Highway 90 when another driver tried to turn from the highway onto Bellingrath road. Mobile police also say this is the third fatal traffic crash at this intersection this year.
“Just let them know we’ll love them and miss them and we’ll always love them and miss them,” said Mike Hanson. While the pain lingers, Buddy Balkcom’s daughter offers forgiveness to the other driver involved in the crash.
“I’m not angry at you, we can cry on each other’s shoulder if that’s the case,” said Patricia Balkcom. “It was a freak accident nobody meant for it to happen.” Mobile police say the Balkcoms were wearing helmets at the time of the crash. It’s not clear if charges will be filed in this case.
