The congregation at Springhill Avenue UMC has been going through the book of 1 Timothy. They’re covering the idea of the Church as a family.
“We hear Paul explaining to Timothy that everyone within the life of the church should treat each other as they would family members, or in today’s language, those who are the most important in their lives. Paul says to treat those who are older than you as parents and those younger as siblings,” wrote Rev. Howard in an e-mail to me explaining this week’s topic. Howard also talks about the concept of honoring others.
“The importance of honoring the people in our lives is realizing that through honoring others, we are more importantly bringing honor to God. Honoring others is realizing that we are all created in the image of God. We are all children of God. We all have a bit of the holy inside of us. So the model Scripture proposes for us is one in which we honor God as we honor the holy inside of everyone around us, treating all people as family members of value, not as objects,” said Howard.
The church is also holding a family movie night starting at 6 at the church on Friday, October 28th.
