UPDATE (2:15 p.m.) – The Pensacola Police Department has identified the pedestrian killed as Brunetta Poindexter, a 47-year-old woman from Pensacola.
ORIGINAL STORY – The Pensacola Police Department is investigating the death of a pedestrian Thursday morning who was struck by a Yellow Cab.
The accident happened at the intersection of South M and West Garden streets in Pensacola around 5:55 a.m. on Thursday. A woman, who has not yet been identified, stepped out in front of the Yellow Cab heading eastbound on Garden Street and was struck. She was pronounced dead on the scene.
According to Pensacola Police, the driver of the Yellow Cab was not at fault and she is not facing any charges at this time. She has been identified as Sherri Mae Cooper, a 52-year-old from Pensacola.
The pedestrian was walking in the road and stepped out in front of the cab as it was passing her, according to Officer Tony Garza with Pensacola Police.
The accident this morning caused traffic back-up in the area. Authorities were forced to divert traffic around the scene for close to three hours.
