October started with a bang in downtown Mobile this morning. A cannon was set off to begin the Mobile Sports Authority 5K.
The run was one of several races that took part in the Mobile Health Department’s “War on Inactivity”. The Mobile Sports Authority started hosting the race last year after the Bayfest 5K was cancelled. This year they partnered with Alabama School of Math and Science students that are in a club called Heroes of Health.
“Heroes of Health is actually raising money for third world countries to get better access to healthcare. We’re actually working with Partners in Health and, by working with the Mobile Sports Authority and the Port City Pacers, we organized this run,” said Leanne Jeong.
About two-hundred runners took part in today’s race. There was also a fun run that both kids and adults took part in.
