What’s Working: Mobile’s Singing Children Take On Carnegie Hall

A group of young singers in Mobile is preparing for an important concert. Members of Mobile’s Singing Children will be performing at Carnegie Hall in New York City next year. For the past 40 years, this group has put on beautiful concerts along the Alabama Gulf Coast.

The children audition to be part of Mobile’s Singing Children. There are four choirs, depending on a child’s age and experience. Director Susan Hoitt says working hard is a must. The children take music home with them to practice each week.”They are disciplined they want to be here. They love it. They want to work hard. It is a group, just like a team is! They want each other to do well.” Elizabeth Beamis is the Music Theory teacher. She spent years performing with Mobile’s Singing Children. “They are energetic, intelligent, and well-spoken. Having the privilege of teaching these kids who love to sing is really special.”

The next performance for Mobile Singing Children is December 3rd at The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.
