An emotional Friday morning for students and staff at Florence Howard Elementary School in Mobile. A 7-year-old student was hit by an SUV near the school. The second-grader was at the intersection of North Ann Street and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue when he was hit around 8:20 this morning.
“He attempted to cross the street and ran out in front of a vehicle,” said Cpl. Ryan Blakely, Mobile Police Dept.
Blakely tells us the SUV had just left the intersection and wasn’t going very fast, but the impact was enough to knock the child out for a few minutes.
“Unconscious at the time but non-life threatening.”He was taken to a hospital and the latest from his mother is that he’s doing okay.

This is the second time this week a person was hit within the Mobile County School District. A teacher was hit while directing traffic at Alma Bryant High School this past Tuesday. Police are advising drivers and pedestrians to be especially careful near schools.
