A new exhibit at the Gulf Coast Exploreum should definitely make you want to rock, maybe call your old buddies and get the band back together.
‘Guitar: The Instrument That Rocked The World’ will run through January 3rd at the Exploreum. Almost 80 guitars that span the history of the instrument are on display. But there are also many video and hands-on interactive attractions, including the world’s largest playable guitar. The more than 43 feet long replica of a Gibson Flying V uses aircraft wire for strings.
Harvey Newquist, founding of the National Guitar Museum says they selected guitars that represent a milestone in the history or development of the guitar, and some made famous because of the people who play them.
There is also a science component, engaging visitors in an experience that is visual, tactile and aural, according to the National Guitar Museum’s website.
We got a sneak peek at the exhibit as organizers, including Newquist, were setting it all up. Check out the video.
