The Mobile Police Department arrested a 16-year-old male subject and charged with him with making terrorist threats.
The arrest was part of an investigation by Mobile Police into reports of clowns coming to terrorize local schools. Detectives were able to locate the teenager through their investigation.
The teenager was booked into Strickland Youth Center on Monday. His identity will not be released because of his age.
Despite the arrest, there were no active reports of any clowns on school campuses in the Mobile area.
The Mobile County Public School System issued the following statement on their Facebook page Monday morning:
MCPSS is aware of posts on social media regarding clowns like the posts that disrupted schools in Escambia County and Baldwin County last week. The school system is working with law enforcement to watch over the schools listed in the posts closely and also to determine the source of the messages. Campus safety and security is a top priority and is carefully monitored and protected each day.”
The arrest in Mobile comes days after multiple suspects were arrested in Brewton, Alabama for the same clown prank. They were also charged with making terrorist threats.
