A former Prichard police officer facing more than a dozen charges, left court in handcuffs and with another charge.
Robert Golden was charged with impersonating a police officer as he left his preliminary hearing.
Sheriff’s investigators say he walked into government plaza with a knife and told security he was a police officer.
Officials say he was fired from the force last month after he was arrested.
“We consider when someone impersonates a police officer to be a very serious charge he could have easily had any other kind of weapon he could have easily bypassed court police,” said Capt. Paul Burch with the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office. “Thankfully they challenged him prior to getting into the courtroom and did at least take a knife off of him.”
Even after the arrest Monday Golden claimed he was still an officer, saying the arrest was retaliation for information he had against law enforcement agencies.
Golden was arrested last month following an “off duty“ altercation with a neighbor who he physically assaulted with injuries on the neighbors’ property, according to the Mobile County Sheriff’s Department.
