SUMMERDALE, AL – State troopers are investigating a deadly accident that happened Saturday on the Baldwin Beach Express at the intersection of County Road 36. Four others involved in the wreck were hurt.
Drivers who live near the intersection say it needs a traffic signal.
The Baldwin County Highway Department says the traffic count at County Road 36 does not warrant a red light. Engineer Cal Markert tells News 5 his office will receive the accident report for anything that might help.
Markert also says it can be counterproductive to put a red light in when it’s not warranted. Markert says red lights that aren’t needed can cause accidents.
About 13,000 vehicles a day used the Baldwin Beach Express in August. That’s the highest volume of traffic recorded since the highway opened in 2014.
