Mayor Stimpson was honored by the American Planning Association with the Distinguished Leadership Award for an Elected Public Official. The award is given to an elected public official that has made significant contributions and shown support for planning in Alabama.
Mayor Stimpson was recognized for his long-range planning efforts that encompass developing and adopting Mobile’s first long range plan known as Map for Mobile: Framework for Growth.
“This award is the result of the City’s Planning and Development staff’s hard work and collaboration,” said Mayor Stimpson. “Planning and urban design are becoming the driving force to increase the quality of life for our citizens. It doesn’t end with the adoption of the comprehensive plan and will continue to be a priority as we begin to implement the principles recommended in Map for Mobile.”
The Alabama – Mississippi APA awards individuals, agencies, organizations, local governments, or private companies within the State of Alabama that have completed outstanding programs or projects. The mayor will receive his award at a ceremony in Biloxi, Mississippi on September 15 at the 2016 Joint Alabama-Mississippi Conference.
