So Medal of Honor Park’s playground is a place that’s been around for a long time, entertained kids with slides and what not but that’s part of the problem, this park is showing its age and I started to show some parents what the city and county officials plan to do to change it. I showed them the picture on my iPhone and got the most cheers from a group of Covenant Christian kids playing there Wednesday morning.
Overall they were impressed with this design especially the RSA Tower replica that seems to be a focal point. It’s going to take some time for this to happen but a lot of parents say it’s about time.
“It’s kind of dingy after so many years, it could use some remodeling,” said mother Jordan Barron. This playground plan comes from a partnership between the city of Mobile and the County. County Commissioner Connie Hudson allocating about $510,000 thousand dollars in capital improvement money while City Councilwoman Bess Rich using $400,930 from her capital improvement fund. Members of the Mobile city council may be voting on a construction contract on this park next week. Construction could start soon and take six months. It’s expected to be opened by spring 2017.
