"We're lucky and the public is lucky that she didn't crash into somebody or an officer didn't get more seriously hurt."

A Florida Attorney is behind bars after a police chase through Gulf Breeze.  She’s a criminal defense lawyer, focusing on crimes like DUI, which she’s now charged with.

A Google search will lead you to Terra Carroll’s website.  It lists different charges and crimes she helps defend… DUI is on the list.  Now, Carroll is facing charges stemming from DUI, like fleeing police, and resisting arrest.

“We are seeing a lot more DUI’s just not alcohol related,” said Investigator Greg Baker, with Gulf Breeze Police.  “It’s people under the influence of narcotics, and like I said prescription medication.”

Police say Carroll was pursued in her White Jeep Compass by Santa Rosa Deputies first.

“Gulf Breeze dispatch got a call for a vehicle being pursued by Santa Rosa, and It’s our belief that the vehicle was suspected for DUI by them, and the vehicle almost his several pedestrians,” Baker said.

Carroll went from driving on one side of the road, across the median, and began driving on the other side of the road.  When she crossed to the other side of the road, she didn’t change direction to go with the flow of traffic.  She drove the wrong way.

Dash cam footage from the police car shows the moment Carroll was finally stopped.  You can hear officers ask to see her hands.  Carroll told police she had a gun, and told them to put their guns away.  She then said she did not have a gun, but she would not show her hands.  Police broke the windows of her car to get to her and were able to pull her from the vehicle.  The car began rolling backwards, severely injuring an officer’s arm before it could be put in park.

“It goes from boring to exciting really quick in this line of work,” Investigator Baker said.  “And in this instance, we’re lucky and the public is lucky that she didn’t crash into somebody or an officer didn’t get more seriously hurt.”

Police found a substance they believe is bath salts in the car, but they cannot confirm that before further testing.

Police are still waiting for toxicology reports on Carroll.  She practices law in the Sarasota and Tampa area.
