The Catholic Archdiocese of Mobile is planning this year’s annual “Blue Mass” to honor first responders.
The event will be held at 12:10 p.m. Friday at the Cathedral-Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in downtown Mobile. The event will celebrate all First Responders in the Mobile and Baldwin county communities.
The archdiocese says it began holding an annual Mass for first responders in 1977.
Though it is now known as the Blue Mass, it still is offered as a time for people to pray for and honor “all who protect us as first responders” including fire, law enforcement and medical personnel.
According to the Archdiocese, approximately 400 fifth graders will attend the mass from Catholic schools in the area.
The public is invited to the event.
