UPDATE (1:50 p.m. on 9/4/16) – The pedestrian struck Friday night on Dauphin Island Parkway has been identified as Francis Joseph Price, a 30-year-old from Mobile, according to the Mobile Police Department.
UPDATE (5:15 p.m.) – According to a spokesperson with the Mobile Police Department, the victim was a 30-year-old male. However, his identity has not yet been released pending notification of his next of kin.
The driver of the vehicle is not facing any charges at this time, but an investigation into the crash is underway.
A preliminary investigation by Mobile Police revealed that the driver was traveling north on Dauphin Island Parkway (DIP) in the right lane. He noticed two pedestrians on the right side of the roadway near Canal Road and merged to the left lane to avoid the two pedestrians.
According to police, the pedestrian struck was attempting to cross DIP at an angle and stepped into the path of the driver’s vehicle as he made the lane change.
ORIGINAL STORY – The Mobile Police Department is investigating the death of a pedestrian who was struck on Dauphin Island Parkway Friday night.
It happened around 10:45 near Canal Road involving a white Ford Pickup.
The impact could be seen on the truck’s windshield
The body remained on scene as investigators talked with the driver and gathered evidence.
An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.
