LOXLEY, AL- We spent the morning with Baldwin County Supt. Eddie Tyler as he visited several schools on the last Friday of summer break.
Tyler spends a lot of time in his vehicle. Tyler’s SUV is his office-on-wheels.
Baldwin County has 45 schools, employs about 3,600 employees and has an enrollment of more than 31,000 students. The school system is responsible for 300 bus routes that transport 15,000 students about 15,000 miles a day.
Tyler says rapid growth and overcrowding will be significant challenges this school year. The school system has added 14 new portables to bring the county total to 106.
The Fairhope feeder patterns appears to be the fastest growing feeder pattern. Spanish Fort and Foley are also rapidly growing feeder patterns.
