The Mobile City Council met this morning and the biggest topic of conversation was not the new jurisdiction lines that have been proposed; instead it focused on the two shootings downtown this past weekend that landed one man behind bars and one in critical condition.
Those shootings come on the heels of another shooting just a few weeks ago in July which prompted the city to crack down on loitering activities, loud music and drinking in the streets.
Both incidents happened after 3 a.m.
It also caused some businesses to close early, but those steps weren’t enough to curb the most recent violence.
There will be a public safety meeting at 2 p.m. today where Mobile Police Chief Barber will give the city recommendations on how to combat further violence downtown.
The council will reconvene tomorrow morning at 8 a.m. to vote on proposed changes that come out of that meeting so that any new measures will be in place before the weekend.
News 5’s Alison Spann will have more on this story at 5, 6 and 10.
