A man previously arrested on aggravated child abuse charges now faces an upgraded charge to include homicide after accusations of fatally beating a 2 year old, according to the Pensacola Police Department.
The children were under the care of 26-year-old Alonzo Thompkins last week when emergency crews were called to the home. According to initial reports, Thompkins’ girlfriend came home to find her son unresponsive around 9 a.m. He later died at the hospital.
Investigation revealed the deceased child sustained multiple injuries. Another child in the home also had bruises and a broken collar bone.
The case will be presented to the grand jury next week.
