ELBERTA, AL- School officials and community leaders broke ground on a new wing at Elberta Elementary Monday.
The new wing will eventually house 4th, 5th and 6th graders. Elberta Middle will become the town’s new high school accommodating students in grades 7-12.
Town leaders say a high school will bring excitement, community spirit and unity back to Elberta.
Re-configuring the two Elberta schools will help alleviate overcrowding at Foley High School and cut down on school bus route times and commute times for high school students that live in Lillian.
The 14 room wing will be paid with pay-as-you-go funds and money saved through refinancing loans.
The plan is to transition one grade a year beginning in 2017.
