Strong winds created dangerous waves along Gulf Coast beaches on Sunday, including Navarre Beach, Florida. Lifeguards rescued one woman in a raft who was caught in rough surf. Red flags flew over Navarre Beach. The red flags mean visitors should stay out of the water. The waves were strong and higher than usual. Three lifeguards noticed a young woman in distress and quickly went into rescue mode.
The waves and current quickly pushed the woman in the raft more than fifty feet from the shore. Lifeguards battled the waves for about 15 minutes before they were able to get the woman back to to the sand. The woman was shaken up from the rough waves and rescue. Her family and friends were glad to see her safe on the shore.
This rescue was not the only one at Navarre on Sunday. Lifeguards stayed busy pulling people from the rough surf all day.
