Trombone Shorty, Moon Taxi are First Acts Announced for ‘Ten Sixty Five’ Music Festival in Mobile

MOBILE, AL (WKRG) — 1065 9The first set of performers for the comeback of the free “Ten Sixty Five” music festival in Mobile have been announced.

“Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue” and “Moon Taxi” are the bigger names that are set to perform on Friday September 30 on two stages in downtown Mobile.

The Saturday and Sunday acts are yet to be announced.

“Ten Sixty Five” was a well-received music festival that debuted in downtown Mobile last year after the sudden cancellation of Bayfest.  “Ten Sixty Five” wasn’t as big as Bayfest, nor were the acts as noteworthy, but music lovers praised the free admission and easy-going atmosphere downtown.

The success of “Ten Sixty Five,” through the financial support of its sponsors, led to the festival’s return this year.

“Trombone Shorty” is an accomplished jazz musician known for his eclectic and funky play of trombone and trumpet.  His band “Orleans Avenue” has accompanied him on tour since 2009.

“Moon Taxi” is a progressive rock band on the rise from Nashville, Tennessee. This will be the band’s second stop on the Gulf Coast after playing at Hangout earlier this year.

Joining the party on Friday will be Blind Melon, Black Joe Lewis and the Honeybears, and Los Colognes.
