Free Music Festival Returns To Downtown Mobile For Second Year

Last year’s 1065 music festival was a bit thrown together at the last minute.

“I don’t know how they did it in the short period of time that they did it, cause I think they did it in like two weeks,” says Donna Shoaf with Spot of Tea.

Nevertheless, it was a huge hit!

“They had Sublime. And of course all of us went Sunday afternoon when we got off and they had a really good crowd downtown,” says Shoaf.

The impromptu festival was arranged to take the place of Bayfest, which folded after lack of support…and now people are ok with that.

“If Bayfest wants to leave, they can leave, I mean, this is a great thing for Mobile,” says Patrick Marquis of Mobile.

This year, it will only have two stages, instead of three. No word on where those stages will be set up exactly, or what bands will play, but they promise great national and local acts. And the event is still free to the public. And one of the best things about it—downtown restaurants will be open. So you can go in, grab dinner, get a drink to go and hit the next concert.

“It’s cool, it brings people downtown, supports downtown businesses, it’s the best thing,” says Marquis.

“I think it’s awesome! It’s free! It’s live entertainment! It’s great for the businesses!” says Chasity Huguley.

Several local organizations contributed in order to keep the event a free one—including Wind Creek Hospitality, Poarch Band of Creek Indians, Jake Peavy foundation, Austal USA, and Southern Light.
