Mobile native Nicholas Brownlee is making a name for himself on the international opera stage.
Saturday night, he won first prize in the 35th annual Hans Gabor Belvedere International Singing Competition held in Capetown, South Africa.
Brownlee was chosen over 800 other singers from around the world who entered the competition.
As the winner of the competition, Brownlee received a substantial cash prize and also got contract offers from opera houses in Tel Aviv, Israel and from Germany.
Nick Brownlee is a Theodore High School and University of South Alabama Graduate and is currently living in Los Angeles where he is performing with the Los Angeles Opera.
he is well-known to fans of USA Opera and the Mobile Opera.
He will make his Metropolitan Opera debut December 5th.
