Coastal Carolina didn’t let Arizona run away with the 2016 College World Series Tuesday night in Game 2. The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers won 5-4.
On Monday in Game 1 of the three game series, the Arizona Wildcats were able to defeat the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers 3-0.
On Tuesday night though, Coastal Carolina pitcher Mike Morrison brought the heat to the mound. As the starting pitcher, he only allowed two runs and six hits. He recorded ten strikeouts and only one walk.
Unlike Monday night, the Coastal Carolina team was able to get their offensive game rolling. Chanticleer’s Anthony Marks made contact with the ball sending it to left-center bringing two runners home in the third inning.
Arizona answered with a run in the fifth after Coastal Carolina failed to turn a double play. The game was tied 2-2 going into the bottom of the seventh. After a pitching change for Arizona, Marks was driven home by the Chanticleer’s Connor Owens to make the game 3-2.
The Coastal Carolina team continued to do well at bat bringing the score up to 5-2. The game turned into a nail biter for fans when the Wildcats jumped within a run of the Chanticleers at 5-4 going into the ninth. Although the Chanticleers weren’t able to cross the plate in the last inning, the team was able to keep the Wildcats from scoring in the ninth.
Game 3 will be played Wednesday at 8 p.m ET on ESPN.
