Termites are a nuisance this time of year along the Gulf Coast, attracted to the humidity and moisture in the environment.
The Starbucks in Daphne has been closed for over a week thanks to a swarm of Formosan termites that got into that store. The company said that the insect infestation was “slight.”
Bags covered almost all of the machines inside of the store this past weekend as signs let customers know they were temporarily closed, and chairs blocked customers from using the drive-thru.
Starbucks officials tell News 5 that they are thoroughly cleaning the store and expect to reopen on Monday.
Pest Control Expert Brandon Redd of Redd Pest Control says that along the Gulf Coast, it’s a matter of “when,” not “if” you’ll get termites if you live on the Gulf Coast, and that it’s best to call the experts if a swarm does invade your home or business.
There are some things you can do to try and prevent the swarming termites from getting in, including eliminating moisture around your home like fixing leaky pipes as well as turning the lights off after dusk.
