UPDATE: Midtown Publix Approved By Mobile Planning Commission

UPDATE: The Mobile Planning Commission has approved the Midtown Publix. The site proposal will have to go through the City Council for one final approval.

There are two sides to the midtown Publix debate — one side hotly contests the retailer coming into the neighborhood, and the other hopes it will spur business development and create an accessible grocery store for the under-served area.

So what kind of change would it truly bring?

Midtown Mobile Movement is advocating against the current plan saying it looks too suburban and doesn’t accommodate the historical nature of midtown.

A big meeting is scheduled for this afternoon regarding the approval of Publix’s plans, we’ll have the latest at 5, 6 and 10.
