Hundreds of protesters turned out on the steps of the state judicial building in Montgomery Saturday to show their support for suspended Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore and call for his reinstatement.
Moore is under suspension pending an investigation by the Alabama Judicial Inquiry Commission into ethics charges.
Moore was suspended May 6th when the Judicial Commission charged Moore with violating canons of judicial ethics. filed he issued an administrative order to probate judges in January, saying Alabama’s ban on same-sex marriages was still in effect, despite a U.S. Supreme Court ruling effectively legalizing gay marriage.
The complaint stems from an administrative order he issued in January to probate judges, saying Alabama’s ban on same-sex marriages was still in effect, despite a U.S. Supreme Court ruling effectively legalizing gay marriage.
Protesters, many carrying signs reading “Standing With Chief Justice Roy Moore”, called for his reinstatement.
A hearing on the ethics charges is expected sometime this summer.
