Today is Armed Forces Day and The Blue Star Salute Foundation is marking it in a big way at Battleship Park.
The 12th Annual Blue Star Salute Celebration is honoring Alabamians, past and present, who have served in the military.
The Blue Star 5K Run brings runners out to the park at 7:00 this morning.
At 10:00 am, an opening ceremony takes place with News 5’s Bill Riales as emcee.
Unique to this year’s celebration is “The Wall That Heals”; a traveling replica of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington, D.C.
Tonight at 7:30, a candlelight vigil will be held at the wall to remember those lost during the Vietnam War.
All of this weekend’s Blue Star events are free. Only a $2 parking fee at Battleship Park is charged.
