A traveling, half-scale replica of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington has officially opened to the public at Battleship Park in Mobile.
A small ceremony marked the opening of ‘The Wall that Heals’ which will remain open through Sunday, May 22.
Thousands are expected to visit. The wall is in Mobile as part of this weekend’s Blue Star Salute.
This traveling wall is maintained by the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund, the organization that founded the memorial in Washington.
The Community Foundation of South Alabama provided a grant and worked alongside the Blue Star Salute Foundation and the South Alabama Veterans Council over a three year period to bring the wall to Mobile.
It will remain open 24 hours a day through 5PM Sunday, May 22. Visiting is free but there is a $2 parking charge at Battleship Park.
