Hangout 2016 Ready to Rock

Hangout Music Festival 2016
Thousands are already in Gulf Shores for the Hangout Music Festival that begins Friday.

The invasion has begun. “We expect some really good music from the big artist like the Weekend and expect some really good music from smaller bands too,” says Dana Swift as she waited in line. “Hope we get a good mix of it.”

Around 40 thousand music lovers are streaming into Gulf Shores for the Hangout Music Festival.

Keeping all those folks safe will be dozens of law enforcement agencies from around the county and the state. “It’s something we really plan for months. Probably since the event ended last year,” according to Gulf Shores police Sgt. Jason Woodruff.

Traffic detours around the festival divert motorists east and west around the festival that takes up all of the main public beach. “Really unless you are at the core of this the rest of the city doesn’t feel that crowded,” says city spokesman Grant Brown.

The partnership between the city of Gulf Shores and Shaul Zislin’s Hangout started seven years ago and has worked out well for both of them. “A 31 million dollar impact to this South Baldwin community. The direct impact to the city of Gulf Shores is about 700 thousand dollars from the tax revenue of the event,” says Brown.

It’s an event unlike any other on the music festival circuit and one fans will enjoy with a beachfront view.

Festival gates open at 11 o’clock Friday morning. Organizers are keeping a close watch on the weather. They say the festival is a rain or shine event and it will be shut down if lightning is in the area.
