A young man from Crestview who had dreams of becoming a Navy Seal died in a training exercise Friday in California.
The Navy says Seaman James Derek Lovelace was taking part in training called “drownproofing” when something went terribly wrong. He was pulled to the edge of the pool where he lost consciousness. Emergency responders tried to revive him but failed. Lovelace graduated from Crestview High School and attended Faulkner State Community College where he played baseball before enlisting.
He is survived by his father and two sisters.
