A free workshop is being held today to help parents assess their young child’s development.
it’s called Books, Balls and Blocks and is designed specifically for children ages 4 months to 5 years.
Organizers say Mobile County’s first-grade retention rate is one of the worst in the state and that this program can help turn that around.
Books, Balls and Blocks will utilize active play to assess a child’s development.
Once problems are discovered, parents will be directed where to go to find their child the help they need to get them on track.
Books, Balls and Blocks will take place from 9:00 am until 1:00 pm today (Saturday 4/30) at the Goodwill Church Ministries at 1038 Grant Avenue in Prichard.
The program is a partnership with Goodwill Church Ministries, the Mobile County Juvenile Court, NEST of Mobile, McGill-Toolen High School SGA, Blount High School SGA, Vigor High School SGA and Lifelines Family Counseling services.
