ELBERTA, AL- The town of Elberta is taking the Zika outbreak in Latin America and the Caribbean seriously.
The town has mailed out more than 3,000 Zika warning alert postcards. The cards also remind property owners about the town’s trash and rubbish ordinance.
The nuisance ordinance also requires property owners to remove items that hold standing water because that’s where mosquitoes breed.
Both town officials and county health officials say there’s not a local Zika virus threat.
The Baldwin County Health Department is giving away free mosquito larvicide to residents. The larvicide tablets can be picked up at the health department offices in Robertsdale and Bay Minette.
