A group that helps arrange for the funerals of indigent veterans is seeking the help of the public.
Since the cemetery opened in Spanish Fort 3 years ago, the Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery Foundation is been assisting with almost two dozen funerals of homeless, destitute or otherwise unclaimed veterans who pass away. The group, made up of representatives of a number of service organizations, is hoping to raise funds to continue that effort with a golf tournament in May. The public is invited to sign up to play in the tournament. It will be held at Quail Creek Golf Course in Fairhope, 1:00pm, Sunday, May 15th.
To sign up contact foundation member Albert Grassley at 251-923-6772. You can also contact the Quail Creek Clubhouse at 251-990-0240. The entry fee is $100 per person.
