Mobile’s Kmart store on Schillinger Road will close down this summer. The store is one of 68 around the country that will close in late July. Liquidation sales will begin next month.
10 more Sears stores around the country will also close. Sears, which also owns Kmart, says the move is a “difficult but necessary” step to strengthen the company and make it profitable.
At one time, Sears was the nation’s largest retailer and biggest employer. But in 2014, Sears shut down some 200 stores nationwide. And in September 2015, the Sears Store and Auto Center at Bel Air Mall closed down for good.
