Bullock Prison Officers Charged with Smuggling Contraband

UNION SPRINGS, Ala. (AP) – Three corrections officers at Bullock Correctional Facility have been charged with attempting to smuggle contraband into the prison.

WBRC-TV reports (http://bit.ly/1Qc5RIK) that according to public records, three corrections officers – 24-year-old Victor Davis, 23-year-old Tevin Denton and 20-year-old Khayla Chambers – were recently found attempting to smuggle in items like cell phones and cigarettes.

The officers were terminated and face felony charges.

Jeff Dunn, Commissioner of the Alabama Department of Corrections, says that to varying degrees, there is a contraband issue in each state correctional facility. He says most prison violence is tied to contraband.

The DOC conducted two searches of the Bullock prison since Jan, 2015, which revealed 262 cell phones.

The DOC says eight corrections officers have been terminated department-wide for promoting contraband, but those fired from Bullock are the only ones facing criminal charges.
