State Troopers say all lanes of interstate 10 have reopened after being closed for nearly four hours. The crashed killed two people and injured others.
Here’s the news release from Troopers sent at 7:08 AM:
Today Sunday, April 10, 2016, at 5:41 AM Alabama State Troopers were notified by Mobile County EMS of a two-vehicle crash in Mobile County on I 10 WB near Exit 10. There are two confirmed vehicles with ejections and two confirmed fatalities. Troopers and emergency personnel are on the scene. I 10 is shut down both directions due to the crash. Alabama Department of Transportation has been notified to aid in setting up a detour from Exit 10 (McDonald Road) to Exit 13 (Theodore Dawes Road) in both directions. Drivers are urged to find alternate routes as the interstate is closed from exit 10 to exit 13 both East and West bound. An update will be sent when further details become available.
Officials close to the investigation say three people are in serious condition from the accident. Initial reports indicate some passengers were not wearing seatbelts and that this contributed to the deaths. The drivers of both cars are alive and conscious but their conditions are unknown as they recover in the hospital. State Troopers say it’s possible fatigue contributed to the crash.
