Strawberry season is upon us, and many people took advantage by digging into some sweet treats at the twenty-ninth annual Baldwin County Strawberry Festival. Thousands ventured to Loxley this weekend to get a taste of the infamous strawberry shortcake and enjoy the great spring weather.
The event was held from 9 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Children rode carnival rides. Shoppers browsed a variety of arts and crafts booths, and car lovers were able to take a look at classic automobiles.
Sponsor Chair Greg Walker estimated that 168 booths were featured at the event.
The festival first started in 1987. The event was created to support Loxley Elementary and the ARC of Baldwin County. Proceeds are used to provide local students with school supplies. Adults with intellectual and developmental challenges also benefit from the Strawberry Festival. More than $20,000 is donated to each organization every year.
