A man is dead following a stabbing Tuesday at Pine Tree Apartments in Pascagoula, Mississippi. According to authorities, the stabbing was a result of a drug deal.
Police were alerted to the stabbing after two victims showed up at the emergency room at Singing River Hospital with stab wounds. Joel Marvin Thornton from Jackson County was one of the two victims. Thorton, who is 41-years-old, later died from the injuries.
The incident started around 11:30 a.m. when officers arrived at the apartment complex for a disturbance call. Initially, officers left the complex and didn’t return until after speaking with the victims at the hospital.
Officers then spoke with three residents of the complex who said three white males kicked in their door and demanded money. An altercation ensued, which resulted in the stabbing. One of the apartment residents grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed two of three men that had entered the apartment.
Police believe the incident started earlier in the morning when one of the apartment residents stole drugs from one of the men who kicked in the door.
No charges have been filed at this point, but the District Attorney will present the case to a Jackson County Grand Jury.
