LARNACA, Cyprus (AP) – A Cyprus official says the hijacking situation at an airport is over and the suspected hijacker is under arrest.
Local TV footage from the airport in Cyprus showed seven people leaving the hijacked EgyptAir plane, with one man climbing out of the cockpit window and the sliding off the plane.
Authorities had said that there were seven passengers and crew still on the plane with the hijacker, after everyone else was let go.
The plane was supposed to fly from Alexandria, Egypt to Cairo today when the hijacker forced the plane to land in Cyprus.
The president of Cyprus said he didn’t think the hijacking had to do with terrorism, and the hijacker asked negotiators to deliver a letter to a woman in Cyprus.
