Governor Robert Bentley today answered questions about allegations of an affair he had with his top political aid and former communications director.
Governor Robert Bentley said many times his relationship with Rebekah Mason was not physical.
“What I’m saying is, there was no sexual activity,” says Governor Robert Bentley.
Instead, Bentley insinuates that inappropriate comments was the extent of their relationship.
“At times in the past, have I said things that I should not have said, absolutely, and that’s what I’m saying today,” says Bentley.
Bentley said these allegations are from several years ago.
“I made a mistake. Two years ago I made a mistake. I have rectified that, I have dealt with that and we have moved on.”
But Spencer Collier says it’s not over.
“Less than a month ago, the governor told me that he was still madly in love with Rebekah Mason, that he was a man of honor and wouldn’t ask her to divorce her husband,” says Collier.
Mason has not outright denied the allegations but has not addressed them either, leaving us to speculate as to who is really telling the truth.
