Mobile Police have arrested and charged 30-year-old Ashley Wilkins with a new charge of chemical endangerment of the welfare of a child.
Wilkins had turned herself in last October after police discovered a dead baby buried in her backyard.
She had already been charged with abuse of a corpse, but police told us their investigation was still open — and they have determined from toxicology results that chemicals were in the baby’s system.
It has been confirmed the substance was cocaine.
Wilkins was arrested earlier today on this new charge and has been taken to Mobile County Jail.
At this point, it is still unclear whether the baby was born alive, or stillborn.
Her bond is set at $20,000.
