The Alabama Supreme Court dismissed petitions by several state organizations looking for the Court to rule that same sex marriage is illegal in the state of Alabama.
The dismissal of petitions means the state of Alabama will follow federal law following the June decision by the U.S. Supreme Court that ruled that same sex marriage was legal in all 50 states.
The petitions that were brought to the Alabama Supreme Court were filed by the Alabama Policy Institute and Alabama Citizens Action Program. The court also dismissed a petition from Elmore County Probate Judge John Enslen.
Chief Justice Roy Moore has been a known opponent of same sex marriage in Alabama and issued an order in January that said probate judges have the right to enforce same sex marriage ban.
