Mobile man nabbed smuggling phones and drugs into Atmore jail

Jeramie Solomon, 18, was arrested for smuggling contraband to a correctional facility in Atmore.

ATMORE (Ala.) – A suspect was arrested early Friday at the Fountain Correctional Facility in Atmore, Ala. after corrections officers observed a suspicious man near the facility’s fence, according to the Alabama Department of Corrections.

At approximately 3 a.m. Friday, a corrections officer manning the prison’s tower observed the man near the fence and wearing black clothing.  When questioned by the officer, the man attempted to flee but was detained by the prison’s K-9 unit.

The man was observed carrying a white bag containing several packages wrapped in black tape.

Inside of the packages, corrections officers found 27 cell phones, battery chargers, synthetic marijuana and other contraband.

The Department of Corrections arrested Jeramie Solomon, 18, of Mobile and charged him with drug trafficking and prohibited activity on state prison property.

Solomon was taken to the Escambia County Jail following his arrest.
