Early Sunday morning, Alabama State Trooper Michael Kesler delivered a baby after stopping a couple for speeding on U.S. Highway 72 in Limestone County.
“Without hesitation, Trooper Kesler quickly acted and assisted in the delivery of the baby,” said Secretary of Law Enforcement Spencer Collier.
The passenger was in labor when Kesler stopped the vehicle. After delivering the baby, Kesler cleaned the newborn and mother while awaiting an ambulance to arrive on the scene.
A family doctor helped Kesler deliver the baby via cell phone directions.
After helping the family get to Athens Hospital, Kesler went to the store and bought flowers, cupcakes and a newborn starter kit for the family.
Secretary Collier added, “Trooper Kesler’s actions today exemplify the mission of the Alabama State Troopers – to serve and protect. I want to personally commend Trooper Kesler for his swift actions and going above and beyond the call of duty.”
