Millions of Americans will take advantage of the day after Christmas to return unwanted gifts.
Fraud is making returning those items increasingly difficult.
Experts say a vast majority of retailers require identification from people making returns who don’t have receipts.
Consumer Reports suggests not opening items you don’t intend on keeping. Return them in their original packaging.
Also, don’t be surprised if you are asked to pay a restocking fee or to accept payment in store credit.
More and more merchants say they are targeted by shoplifters who try and return stolen items for cash.
