If you are looking for gift ideas that have meaning all year long, consider helping some local non-profit agencies. Goodwill Easter Seals sells their beautiful $15 ornament every year. All the proceeds go back into their programs which help children and adults with special needs. Melissa Harville with Easter Seals says, “It’s special. It gives back to the community. They are landmarks for our area. If you are from here, you can start your collection, and you can go back and fill in the blanks or you can start in 2015 and keep collecting from here.” This year’s ornament features Bellingrath Gardens. For that person who is hard to shop for, consider making a donation in their honor at organizations like the Child Advocacy Center. They sell Christmas cards that they will address for you, for $15 a piece. The cards are sent to someone with a note saying you made a donation in their name. Executive Director, Pat Guyton says, “You would rather give them a card rather than a tie, fruitcake socks, or a turkey. We will send this beautiful card out, and it tells the person they are being honored all year long.” To order cards from the Child Advocacy Center, click here. They hope to raise $25,000 through their Holiday Tribute program.
Victory Health Partners in Mobile also sells Christmas cards that they will send out for you. Each card purchased for ten dollars means a lot of people without insurance can receive health care. Kim Garrett with Victory says, “It’s so much more than another gift, or another fruit basket. It really makes a huge impact in our community and a huge difference in the lives our patients.
