St. Paul's Wins 5A Football State Championship

The Blue devils of Mortimer Jordan were no match for the Saints in the 5A championship game at Bryant-Denny. St. Paul’s won the 5A title last year at Jordan-Hare, and tonight they get it done at Bryant-Denny Stadium. The Saints marching early. Ostin McPherson finished a drive with a touchdown run to take a 7–0 lead.

McPherson has started 5 seasons for the Saints. Miller Mosely showed his championship form at quarterback. He scored on the keeper and made it 14-zip. Just before leading 20-0, B.J. Edmonds came up with a pick-six, and St. Paul’s led 27-6 at the half. The two teams traded touchdowns in the third quarter and the Saints went on to win 41-26. McPherson was named MVP.

It’s back to back titles in 5A for Steve Mask and his outstanding program.

Bayside played Piedmont tough in the first quarter of the 3A title game. After falling behind 7-0, Conner Sirmon found Will Cox all alone and the game was tied, 7-7. Bayside has never made it this far in the playoffs and their depth and championship game experience showed as the bulldogs went to score 37 unanswered points to win, 44-7.
Bayside, with a season to remember, finishing 11 and 4 and the runner-up in class 3A.
