With Alabama fans grinning at the close of the Iron Bowl, there’s some serious keyboard clicking happening at Springdale Travel. They’ll book maybe 50 trips to Atlanta. Some fans have already tried to book a trip for the National Championship. They’re skipping the SEC Championship Game and first playoff game.
“I have had several phone calls and I’ve had to tell them ‘we have to wait’ and we will have our packages up on our website, but we have to see where Alabama’s going first,” said Group Sales Manager Debra Smith. It’s been almost commonplace the last several years to have a college team from Alabama vying for a national championship; it’s pricey but fatigue not really setting in
“Really I worry they won’t win and we won’t have the opportunity to put a trip together I went for 25 years of my career without hosting a trip to a national championship game and then I did five in a row,” said owner Bob Bender. If Alabama wins the SEC Championship game this week, Bender said they’ll have fewer bookings for the first round of the playoffs than they will for the final game.
