Salvation Army Opens Cold Shelter For First Time This Season

More beds and cots were rolled out as part of the Salvation Army's charity work.

The Salvation Army is generally a busy place in Mobile. This morning it’s a little bit more busy. The Salvation Army opened its cold weather shelter. That means they pulled out an extra cots and beds for people to have a warm place to sleep and something to eat. That’s on top of the roughly 150 people that are usually here for various programs. Officials here say the need in Mobile is big.

“It’s incredible, I would say on any given night you can have more than 600 homeless, the Salvation Army has limits, we can max out around 300 but that’s still just small slice so there is a big need in our community,” said Public Relations Director Kevontae Smalls.

Men spending the night at the Salvation Army because of cold weather are out fast. They had breakfast at 5:30 am and then were out the door.
